If the ECM was bad the engine would not run at all. Check the vacuum line(s) and electrical connections, and maybe invest in a Haynes repair manual. Cliff

thanks for info.here it was has been done so far. auto zone has scanned the system at 5 times and it keeps coming up with the egr valve is bad have replaced it

It all depends on the model year and the type of ECM computer. If you have an older system you can reset the light by disconnecting the battery. For newer

Daniel: I think I may have found the problems. I checked the engine over last evening, and the first thing I saw was sparks jumping from the #5 spark plug.
