thanks for the tips, i tried cleaning the track, and no change, then i removed the bulbs in the dummy unit, again no change, next i switched the terminals on

Williams are basic whistle/horn locos - no fancy TMCC or Railsounds. But a short burst of DC can trigger the horn, and this can sometimes be caused by rusty
