I agree, the LIRR should be opening more stations. The closing and consolidation of stations over the decades has not improved boarding time (or running time)

This was about 3-4 years ago, on the way home. We were stuck for about an hour, with the lights of the M7 in the WH station staring at us the whole time.

What I meant was referring to a few times where I was stuck on an M7 or M1/M3 and was told by conductor or engineer that you cannot "couple" them together. I
