I know this one is Eomer's breastplate on his leather armor. They did such an extraordinary job with the leatherwork on the men of Rohan's armour. Very nice!

The loop can be hidden in the seam on the panel's edge. I didn't use one because I could just tuck the panel under the belt and it held very well all day.

Thanks for the pix; it really helped a lot. I was placing the cord in the seam between the lining and the outer fabric and pulling it up to the waist - too

I have the Simplicity 4940 pattern but since the dress is for my daughter (girls size8), I had to make my own pattern. I like the idea of stitching the panel
