I'd also recommend using a pair of your existing boots as a basic pattern for width etc. I have large calves, and find this is necessary for scaling purposes.

Unfortunately, I think you're absolutely correct, Judy. But it is an awesome cloak fabric and the color is fantastic, so I'm putting up with the problems.
