Yes, but I still can't get it to read the files. Am I supposed to import it as a map (I don't see a tiff or geotiff choice) or load and calibrate map image

Yes, but the download from the LINZ server is painfully slow - often only a few bytes per second - but since their maps are good quality and fre,e I guess one
