Hi, I got the link set up, and Xastir worked. Then I closed it, and it wouldn't work again. I killed the i2ckiss process and set it up again, still no joy.

You could use LinBPQ - this includes an RMS Gateway, so you don't need to run Linux RMS, and can be configured as a digipeater as well as a packet node. 73,
