The problem started without me ever touching the carb bolts. I reckon i could have overtightened them AFTER the fact (i doubt it), but that wouldn't explain

It's also possible that you have over tightened your carb bolts. This is one of the most common sources of air leaks, namely, when you over tighten the carb
