I owned an '83 and still think this body style is one of the very nicest on the road, but sadly with the 4100 motor I feel they are problem, money-pit cars.

LOL ok the steamboat is a vacuum controled switch which turns the heater / ac fan on and off. it has 4 vacuum ports and in located on my car on the firewall.
