P, Check the water pump's V-belt. A loose belt won't drive the pump well enough to keep up. Does the top radiator hose and the radiator get hot? It's not

Triumph Stag & TR7. The thermostat must have the additional Reverse Poppet Valve (aka, Bottom Bypass or Blanking Disk). Don't run without it. Unipart GTS
