I think, your Alchemy does not connect to OMS2.3.8. Maybe you should check the settings in Alchemy and OMS. Maybe you can try another Software to connect to

Good idea to add more rom and it's very possible! You can do a mod to the chips by stacking and switching or even using larger sized chips and bank switching.
